Intention
I’ve set an intention to nourish myself in any way possible. I look to start every morning with a juice or some sort of fruit, to make sure I’m feeding my body something that it can sustain off of and get me going on my day. Your body is basically fasting while you are asleep, so it’s important that that first meal is nutritious and gives your body the fuel it needs. Now I’m not saying don’t indulge with some shrimp and grits or a bacon cheeseburger; I’m saying start your morning off with something filled with nutrients before you get into a heartier meal.

❁   ❁   ❁

My Wake Me Up Juice is something I love to start my mornings with. Filled with celery for improving your digestive system, ginger for an enhanced immune system, and cucumber for sustained hydration, this juice is simple and really packs a punch.

❁ Celery benefits: Improved Gut Health / Digestive System

❁ Ginger benefits: Enhanced Immune System

❁ Cucumber benefits: Sustained Hydration

Juice ingredients
  • 2 cucumbers

  • 1 bunch of celery

  • 1 small- to medium-sized ginger

Veggie wash ingredients

  • 4 parts water

  • 1 part distilled white vinegar

  • 2 tbsps lemon juice

Utensils

  • juicer*

  • receptacle for juice

  • spoon

Timeline

     Prep: 10 minutes

+ Juicing: 5 minutes

     Total: 15 minutes

❁ makes 32 oz. or 2–3 servings ❁

Steps

  1. Make sure all your fruits and vegetables have been properly cleaned. Soak the cucumber and celery for about 5 minutes in a veggie wash (recipe provided above). After, rinse well and pat dry.

  2. Thoroughly rinse your ginger and peel it. I’d recommend using a spoon over a knife to do it. Use the edge of the spoon to scrape the skin and it should come off pretty smoothly.

  3. Cut your ginger and vegetables to fit inside the feeding shoot of your juicer.

  4. Remove plunger, turn on your juicer, and begin putting in your ingredients. Make sure to have a bowl or container to catch juice from the juice spout.

  5. After your ingredients are juiced, pour into a storage container or cup. If drinking immediately I’d recommend sitting your juice in the freezer, just to give it some chill.

  6. Enjoy, and tag @niggaswhojuice and @hrblgy when you make yours!

*Tip: If you don’t have a juicer, no worries at all. Fill your blender with all the ingredients, add a cup of coconut water and blend until everything is incorporated. Pour over a colander or cheesecloth to strain and serve.
